panerai 560 vs 112
I am in the process of buying my first Panerai. It should be a base model with a screwed back, water resistant to 300m and a Luminor case. So I narrowed my choice down to the PAM111 and PAM112. The 112 is a 44mm Luminor with a base, sandwich dial. Having this base (I.e. two hands and no seconds) and sandwich (numerals cut out of top layer exposing luminous layer beneath) dial gives the 112 a distinctive Panerai look that you can recognize from across the room. In the current catalogue I much prefer the 914 than the 560 as I think it most closely represents the 112 you're looking for in a base Panerai with the black, sandwich dial and display back (and I quite like the vintage lume and flat crystal with no distortion).
